Dear Zack, Can you can point me in the right direction? I need to use my Pentax 67 with rear curtain sync, only way to do it is with a MultiMax trigger. What is the cheapest set up I can get? Will a Cowboy trigger do? And is the Metz 45 CL1 adequate or should I get something like the LumoPro? Thank you for your time.
I don’t know of any other trigger out there that can allow you to do rear curtain on that Pentax other than the MultiMax. The MultiMax is sort of a PITA trigger. You will have to program the delay you want based on the shutter. It does work but you have to get that timing right on or it will fire after your exposure or 3/4 of the way through it. There may be other triggers out there that will allow you to set a delay. I don’t know of any though.
That Metz is fine except they can be kind of a pain to mount to a stand with a modifer. All of those potato masher flashes have that problem. There are some custom brackets out there that will help you out. If it were me I’d sell that beast and buy a few LumoPros. I’m not saying you CAN’T use that flash. You totally can. It’s a fine flash. Just a pain to mount and use modifiers due to it’s design. It’s designed to be on a bracket with your camera.
I’d only worry about all of this if you ABSOLUTELY OMG HAVE TO HAVE REAR CURTAIN OMG! If you have a very specific project that requires rear curtain for moving objects then you are going to have to get the right tools for the job. If it is something you just want for every now and then sort of uses then don’t sweat it that much.
