Is it about great photography for you or about “hits”? Is it the craft or the stats? Why do you need hits? Why do you need people looking at your photos? And is it other photographers you are wanting to see your work or are you looking for clients? If you are looking for love why from other photographers?
See… I want to question your motives with this one. Are you need “atta boys” and high fives? Are you seeking critique? Do you just want view counts to go up?
The “can’t get any love from the community” is the part I keep going back in your question. Community is just that. Community. If you are new to a community then you need to hang out for awhile. You need to interact. You need to sort of sit at the edge and mingle in slowly. If you are looking for validation then you’re going to have a rough go at it. Especially at 500px. You can get lots of high fives for “meh” work on Flickr.
Be patient. Only show the best of the best you have. Interact with folks. Show the love before you get any back yourself. Don’t let “hits” be the bench mark for success though. There are some middle of the road basic photographers out there with a lot of “hits”. Doesn’t mean their work is all that great. Hit’s don’t mean shit. Great, great, great work matters more. And great, great, great work will eventually start getting hits.
Go for great work first. Let hits happen naturally and organically.
